‫في صمت وهدوء‪ ..‬بعيدًا عن أضواء اإلعالم التي تتلقف أخبار هذا وذاك من‬
‫نجوم الرياضة والسياسة والسينما‪ ..‬وفي الوقت الذي واصل الناس التعبير عن‬
‫حزنهم على رحيل مخترع كبير آخر هو ستيف جوبز عن طريق شراء المزيد‬
‫من أجهزة اآلي فون التي تصب المليارات في خزائن الشركة المنتجة‪ ..‬رحل‬
‫عن عالمنا‪ ،‬في بيت متواضع مزدحم بالكتب‪ ،‬رجل قدم لإلنسانية جمعاء‪،‬‬
‫وللثقافة والمعرفة على وجه الخصوص‪ ،‬اختراعًا عظيمًا ال يقل في أهميته عن‬
‫سلسلة االختراعات واالكتشافات الكبرى التي رسمت صورة المجتمع البشري‬
‫والحضارة اإلنسانية المعاصرة‪ ،‬اختراعا لم يعط حتى الساعة حَّقه من التقييم‬
‫‪ "eBook"..‬وبيان ما تركه وما سيتركه من آثار… إنه الكتاب األلكتروني‬
‫المخترع‪ ..‬ولد مايكل هارت في ‪ Michael S Hart""..‬االختراع‪ ،‬ومايكل هارت‬
‫واشنطن في الثامن من آذار عام ‪ 1947‬ألب عمل خالل الحرب العالمية الثانية‬
‫في مجال فك الشفرات العسكرية‪ ،‬ثم أنتقل مع أسرته الى "ألينويز" ليعمل‬
‫هو وزوجته أستاذين جامعيين في حقلي الدراسات الشكسبيرية وتدريس‬
‫الرياضيات على التوالي‪ .‬في الستينات التحق مايكل هارت هو اآلخر طالبًا في‬
‫جامعة الينويز لدراسة الهندسة الكيميائية لكنه هجرها ملًال بعد عامين ليساق‬
‫بعدها الى الجيش خالل حرب فيتنام‪.‬ثم عاد لينخرط في الدراسة من جديد‬
‫ويحصل‪ ،‬بامتياز‪ ،‬على شهادته في العلوم اإلنسانية في غضون عامين فقط‪.‬‬
‫ورغم أنه‪ ،‬ولظروف معينة‪ ،‬لم يتمكن من إكمال دراسته العليا فإن أن تلك‬
‫الفترة بالذات هي التي منحته الفرصة الذهبية ليخرج الى العالم بالكتاب‬
‫االلكتروني؛ ففي عام ‪ 1971‬منحه مركز الكومبيوتر في جامعة ألينويز‬
‫وبمساعدة من أحد أصدقاء أخيه فرصة مفتوحة ومجانية للدخول الى‬
‫منظومته واستعمال حاسبته‪ ،‬وهو األمر الذي لم يكن متاحًا في ذلك الزمان اال‬
‫للقلة القليلة من الناس في المراكز البحثية واألكاديمية المتقدمة ونظير مبالغ‬
‫طائلة‪ .‬كانت تلك الحاسبة جزًء من شبكة تتكون من ‪ 15‬حاسبة لم يكن عدد‬
‫المشتركين فيها ليزيد على المائة شخص وشكلت نواة لما تطور الحقًا الى‬
‫شبكة االنترنت العالمية الهائلة‪ .‬كان االتجاه السائد في وقتها هو االقتصار على‬
‫استخدام الحاسبات العمالقة النفيسة (البدائية بمقاييس عصرنا) في مجال‬

‫غير أن هارت‪ ،‬بما امتلكه من حس ‪ data processing،‬معالجة المعلومات‬
‫مستقبلي ونظر ثاقب كان يتطلع الى استخدامها في مجال آخر كان يخطو‬
‫خطواته األولى وهو نشر وتوزيع المعلومات‪ .‬ويروي لنا هارت نفسه حكاية‬
‫شبيهة بحكاية نيوتن والتفاحة‪ :‬مساء يوم الرابع من تموز عام ‪ 1971‬حين كان‬
‫عائدًا الى بيته من مشاهدة حفل لأللعاب النارية بمناسبة عيد االستقالل‪ ،‬شعر‬
‫بالجوع فمر على محل للبقالة‪ ..‬وهناك أهدوه مع كيس مشترياته نسخة من‬
‫إعالن االستقالل الشهير‪ ..‬وبدًال من أن يتصفحه ثم يلقيه في ركن ما أو يضعه‬
‫الى جانب الكتب والمجالت األخرى كما يفعل اآلخرون‪ ،‬فكر بما يمكن أن‬
‫يصنعه به باالستفادة من المنحة المقدمة اليه الستخدام شبكة الجامعة كنوع‬
‫من رد الجميل بعمل شيء مفيد للناس‪ .‬فقرر أن يطبع االعالن ويوزعه‬
‫الكترونيًا‪ .‬وطبع النص بالفعل ولم يكن ذلك باألمر اليومي السهل الذي يقوم به‬
‫البشر اآلن مليارات المرات‪ ..‬حيث ال نظام تشغيل مثل وندوز وال برامج مريحة‬
‫مثل األوفس وغيره‪ ..‬لقد كانت عملية تدعى تحويل النص الى صيغة رقمية أو‬
‫شيئًا من هذا القبيل وال يقوم بها ال المختصون! المهم أنه أراد بعد طبع ذلك‬
‫اإلعالن أن يرسله الى عدد من معارفه عبر البريد االلكتروني (الذي كان هو‬
‫اآلخر في مهده) لكنهم أخبروه أن إرسال ذلك النص الى العديد من المتلقين‬
‫في وقت واحد أمر غير مسموح به وقد يعرض المنظومة كلها الى االنهيار!‬
‫وكان هذا ما ألهم هارت الفكرة العبقرية التي قد تبدو اآلن غاية في البساطة‪:‬‬
‫ماذا لو قمنا بتحويل أالف وماليين الكتب التي انتجها الفكر البشري الى "صيغة‬
‫رقمية" ورفعناها الى مكتبة افتراضية (رقمية) مجانية كي يتمكن أي متصل‬
‫بالشبكة من "تنزيلها" وقراءتها؟! وبدأ هارت مغامرته الجنونية التي سيكرس‬
‫لها حياته‪ :‬كان الهدف (الخيالي) الذي وضعه لنفسه هو أن يجعل العشرة آالف‬
‫كتاب األكثر مرجعية متاحة للجمهور مجانًا بحلول ‪ .2000‬وكان عليه أوال أن‬
‫يختار كتبا ونصوصًا من نوعية معينة‪ ،‬بمعنى أن تكون من كالسيكيات األدب‬
‫العالمي التي أحدثت أثرا كبيرا في تكوين الحضارة اإلنسانية وأن تكون في‬
‫الوقت عينه غير خاضعة لحقوق النشر أي أال يسبب نشرها أي انتهاك لقوانين‬
‫الملكية الفكرية الصارمة المعمول بها في بالده‪ .‬فاختار الكتاب المقدس‪،‬‬
‫وأعمال هوميروس‪ ،‬ومارك توين‪ ،‬وشكسبير الخ‪ .‬وعندما حل عام ‪ 1987‬كان‬
‫هارت يتطلع مبهور األنفاس الى ما حققه خالل األعوام الستة عشرة الماضي‪:‬‬
‫كان حلمه ما يزال قصيًا‪ ،‬ولم يكن قد تمكن اال من طباعة ‪ 313‬كتابًا بهذه‬

‫الطريقة‪ .‬لكن ذلك العام شهد الخطوة الكبرى التالية‪ :‬فمن خالل االنضمام الى‬
‫مجموعة جامعة الينويز لمستخدمي الحاسبات الشخصية‪ ،‬وبمعونة من مارك‬
‫وهو أحد المبرمجين العاملين تلك الجامعة تمكن هارت ‪ Mark Zinzow‬زنزاو‬
‫من تجنيد عدد من المتطوعين في أرجاء العالم إلرساء األسس للبنية التحتية‬
‫األمر الذي أحدث ‪ mailing lists‬والقوائم البريدية ‪ mirror sites‬للمواقع العاكسة‬
‫ثورة في مشروع هارت الذي نما بعدها بسرعة عظيمة حتى زاد مجموع ما‬
‫نشره حتى اآلن على ‪ 38‬ألف كتاب‪ ،‬مع إضافة ما معدله خمسون كتابا جديدا‬
‫‪.‬كل أسبوع‬

‫ترى هل نسينا شيئًا خالل حديثنا عن مغامرة هارت الكبرى؟ نعم‪ .‬إنه اسم‬
‫مشروعه الخطير‪ ،‬مشروع أول وأعرق مكتبة الكترونية في التاريخ‪ .‬إنه‬
‫لم يكن اختيار هارت لهذا االسم من قبيل ‪ Project Gutenberg.‬مشروع غوتنبرغ‬
‫المصادفة‪ ،‬فقد كان اختراع األلماني جوهانز غوتنبرغ في عام ‪ 1447‬لقوالب‬
‫الحروف الطباعية المتحركة فتحًا تكنولوجيًا عظيمًا شكل إحدى عالمات العصر‬
‫الحديث ومهد الطريق لوصول الكتاب المطبوع الزهيد الثمن الى أبعد بقعة‬
‫في العالم‪ .‬وكان مقدرًا لهذا الرجل أن يحدث ثورة أخرى هي الكتاب الرقمي‬
‫الذي نما وترعرع في أحضان هذا المشروع‪ .‬إن مشروع غوتنبرغ هو كما‬
‫وصفها هارت‪ :‬مؤسسة غير ربحية تهدف الى‪" :‬تشجيع إبداع وتوزيع الكتاب‬
‫األلكتروني المساعدة على تحطيم قيود الجهل واألمية تقديم أكبر قدر من‬
‫"الكتب األلكترونية الى أكبر قدر من الناس‬

‫خالل السنوات العشر األولى من عمر مشروع غوتنبرغ كان هارت يقوم‬
‫بنفسه بطباعة كل كتاب‪ ،‬وبطريقة يدوية (وهو األمر الذي استمر حتى شيوع‬
‫الماسح الضوئي‪-‬السكانر عام ‪ )1989‬لكنه ومنذ عام ‪ 1981‬بدأ باالعتماد كما قلنا‬
‫على جيش من المتطوعين بلغ العشرين ألف ترك لهم عمليا كل شيء‪ :‬إدارة‬
‫المواقع‪ ،‬االختيار‪ ،‬المسح الضوئي‪ ،‬الطباعة‪ ،‬الترجمة‪ ،‬التنضيد‪ ،‬قراءة‬
‫المسودات‪ ،‬التصحيح‪ ..‬واكتفى هو باإلشراف العام والتطوير والعمل على جمع‬
‫التبرعات لديمومة المشروع توفر المكتبة موادها بصيغ رقمية عديدة منها‬
‫وغيرها ‪ HTML‬وملفات ‪ pdf‬وملفات ‪ plain text documents‬النصوص البسيطة‬
‫مما يتيح للجميع تحميلها وتشغيلها مجانًا ‪ .‬أغلب اإلصدارات باللغة اإلنكليزية‬
‫لكن الكثير من األعمال متوفرة بلغات أخرى مثل الفرنسية واأللمانية‬

‫والبرتغالية والصينية‪ .‬ورغم أن المشروع قد ركز أساسًا على التراث الثقافي‬
‫والفكري الغربي واإلصدارات األدبية كالدراما والقصة والرواية والشعر والنقد‬
‫فإن هناك كتبًا أخرى في مجاالت متنوعة كالفنون الجميلة والموسيقى‬
‫والفلسفة والعلوم والرياضة والتصميم والفنون المنزلية والدوريات ناهيك عن‬
‫بعض األعمال غير النصية مثل النوتات الموسيقية والملفات الصوتية‪ .‬الخ‪..‬‬
‫ويحاول المشروع أن يكون قدر اإلمكان حياديًا وموضوعيا وموسوعيًا فيما‬
‫ينشره ولهذا فهو يترك للمتطوعين في أنحاء العالم أن يختاروا الكتب التي‬
‫يعدونها ويضيفونها الى المكتبة‪ .‬هناك العديد من المشاريع المنضوية‬
‫والمساندة؛ البعض منها يختص بمنطقة معينة أو النشر بلغة بعينها‪ ،‬ناهيك عن‬
‫وهي رابطة شبكية ‪ Distributed Proofreaders‬جماعة المصححين المتوزعين‬
‫لمتطوعين يقومون بقراءة وتصحيح النصوص الممسوحة ضوئيًا‪ .‬يوفر موقع‬
‫المشروع (وهو موقع متجدد متطور في تصميمه وحائز على جوائز عديدة)‬
‫شأنه شأن أية مكتبة كالسيكية‪ ،‬العديد من الفهارس المتنوعة التي تتيح‬
‫للمتصفح الوصول الى بغيته عن طريق البحث عن اسم الكاتب أو الكتاب أو‬
‫لغته أو موضوعة‪ ..‬الخ‪ .‬ومن مزاياه أنك تستطيع تحميل تلك الفهارس الى‬
‫حاسبتك الستعراضها والبحث فيها الحقًا دون االتصال بالشبكة‪ ،‬كما يسعى‬
‫المشروع بشتى الطرق الى الحفاظ الدائم على ثروته من الملفات والكتب‬
‫وحمايتها من الضياع نتيجة أية أخطاء أو حوادث عرضية أو مقصودة‪ ،‬ولهذا فهو‬
‫يعيد بين الفترة واألخرى رفعها وتخزينها في مواقع وخوادم شبكات بديلة‬
‫تتوزع في أنحاء العالم‪ .‬من الناحية القانونية يحرص المشروع (رغم حربه في‬
‫المحاكم من أجل توسيع نطاق الملكية العامة للمواد الفكرية) على مراعاة‬
‫قوانين الملكية الفكرية المعمول بها في الواليات المتحدة فال تضاف المواد اال‬
‫بعد الحصول على وثائق قانونية تثبت انتهاء صالحية الملكية الفكرية أو تنازل‬
‫الجهة المالكة عن حقوقها في النشر االلكتروني لصالح المشروع‪ ،‬وهو بصفته‬
‫مؤسسة غير ربحية ال يطالب بحقوق ملكية جديدة على الطبعة االلكترونية كما‬
‫تفعل بعض المؤسسات بل يشجع على إعادة إنتاجها وتوزيعها بصورة مجانية‪.‬‬
‫وردًا على بعض االنتقادات الموجهة الى المشروع بخصوص االفتقار الى الدقة‬
‫وصرامة معايير النشر األكاديمية فإن القائمين عليه يعملون باستمرار على‬
‫النظر في كل ما يردهم من تصويبات ومالحظات ومقترحات مع محاولة‬
‫االحتفاظ بأقدر قدر ممكن من التوازن بين األصل الورقي للمادة والشكل‬

‫المبسط من التنسيق الذي يتيح تحميل المواد ومطالعتها دون الحاجة الى‬
‫برامج أو أجهزة مكلفة‪ .‬عالوة على ذلك دأب المشروع على إصدار أقراص‬
‫مدمجة تضم ما بين دفتيه من إصدارات‪ ،‬وقد بدأت هذه الخدمة المجانية عام‬
‫ضم حوالي ‪" 600‬أفضل الكتب االلكترونية" ‪ 2003 CD‬بإصدار أو قرص مضغوط‬
‫ويمكن تحميله من الموقع مجانًا كما يمكن طلب الحصول على نسخة منه يتم‬
‫‪ DVD‬إرسالها مجانًا‪ .‬وفي وقت الحق من السنة نفسها أصدر قرصًا مدمجًا‬
‫يضم حوالي العشرة آالف كتاب مثلت تقريبًا كل اصدارات المشروع في‬
‫وقتها‪ .‬ثم صدرت طبعة جديدة منه عام ‪ 2007‬احتوت ‪ 17‬الف كتاب‪ ،‬قفزت في‬
‫!طبعة عام ‪ 2010‬الى ‪ 30‬الف كتاب وكل ذلك بالمجان طبعا‬

‫وماذا عن هارت؟‬

‫كان هذا الرجل يتمتع بالعديد من الصفات التي تجعل منه شخصية استثنائية‪،‬‬
‫وعادية في الوقت نفسه؛ واحدة من تلك الصفات كانت إيمانه العميق بأهمية‬
‫وفائدة وصواب ما يفعل جنبًا الى جنب مع تواضعه الجم ونفوره من هوس‬
‫القيادة واإلدارة والنجاح التجاري الذي كان الصفة المميزة للعديد من زمالئه‬
‫المخترعين الذين رسموا صورة الثورة الرقمية المعاصرة‪ .‬لقد وصف نفسه‬
‫في احدى المناسبات بأنه "ليس مديرًا مديريًا" كان قارئًا نهمًا وكاتبًا وخبيرًا‬
‫تقنيًا متعدد المواهب؛ فقد ألف (عالوة على اختراعه للكتاب االلكتروني) العديد‬
‫من الكتب التي أتاحها للقراءة مجانًا على موقع مشروع غوتنبرع‪ ،‬وانهمك في‬
‫السنوات األخيرة في مشروع طموح أطلق عليه اسم "ربراب" يهدف الى‬
‫ابتداع آالت قادرة على استنساخ أي جسم فيزيائي ثالثي األبعاد كما تستنسخ‬
‫الكتب (وهو حلم عظيم آخر وصفه البعض بالجنون لكن هارت رأى فيه‬
‫المستقبل حيث الوفرة التي ال تحدها حدود والثورة الصناعية الجديدة التي‬
‫ستغير وجه العالم) كان هارت يعيل نفسه عن طريق امتهان أعمال غريبة؛‬
‫ففي شبابه عمل لفترة وجيزة موسيقيا في الشوارع‪ ،‬وكان يكتفي في طعامه‬
‫على المعلبات الرخيصة ويرتدي الرخيص من الثياب ويصلح سيارته وبيته‬
‫بنفسه ويجّمع حاسباته وأجهزته المنزلية من بقايا األجهزة التي يتخلص منها‬
‫الناس أو يقتنيها من أسواق الخردة‪ .‬لقد رضي بأن يعيش على حافة الفقر رغم‬
‫مساعدات أمه وأخيه‪ ،‬وأن ينخرط (الى جانب عمله التدريسي) في وظيفة‬
‫إضافية في أحدى الجامعات المحلية دون أجر ألن عمله هناك كان يتيح له‬

‫المزيد من التبرعات لمشروعه العظيم‪ .‬لقد كان مقتنعا بصواب ما يفعل ولهذا‬
‫كان يضحي بكل مباهج الترف والراحة التي في متناول يديه من أجل حربه‬
‫الضروس على الجهل‪ ،‬من أجل الخير والمعرفة للجميع‪ ،‬ومن اجل الحفاظ‬
‫على حقوق النشر العام للمصادر والمؤلفات غير المشمولة بحقوق الملكية‬
‫الخاصة‪ ،‬حتى بلغ به األمر الى االقتصار في التداوي على العالجات المنزلية‬
‫البسيطة التي سببت وفاته المبكرة‪ .‬لقد كان حلمه أن يجعل الكتاب‬
‫االلكتروني "مثل الهواء‪ ،‬نستطيع أن نعب منه ما نشاء"‪ .‬غير أن هذا الرجل‬
‫الذي وهب حياته من أجل الكتاب االلكتروني عبر مسيرة دامت أربعين عامًا لم‬
‫يكن ليرضى لجدران بيته أن تخلو من حشود من الكتب الورقية التي تغطيها‬
‫من األرضية الى السقف‪ ،‬وهي الكتب التي كثيرًا ما يخرج ضيوفه محملين‬
‫بالبعض منها في تعبير آخر عن ولعه بمشاركة اآلخرين في المعرفة‪ .‬يوم بدأ‬
‫ماراثونه بحماس مقدس‪ ،‬وكشأن أغلب الذين يسبقون عصرهم‪ ،‬تعرض ذلك‬
‫الشاب الى التهكم واإلبعاد ووصفه أحدهم بأنه "ذلك الفتى المعتوه الذي يريد‬
‫أن يضع شكسبير في صندوق حاسبة"‪ .‬ولكن‪ ،‬وبعد أربعين عامًا‪ ،‬تحولت‬
‫مغامرة هارت وعبقريته وإصراره الى حكاية تلهم األجيال‪ .‬وهاهي الماليين من‬
‫مواقع النشر والكتب والصحف والنشرات االلكترونية تمأل اآلفاق لكنها كلها‪،‬‬
‫من أصغرها الى أكبرها تدين بالفضل الى الرؤية المستقبلية الخالقة لذلك‬
‫الفتى المعتوه والحب والتفاني الذي أبداهما هو وفريقه الكبير‪ .‬بعضهم شبهه بـ‬
‫"دون كيخوته" الذي حارب طواحين الهواء (وهناك بالطبع نسخة من هذا العمل‬
‫العظيم في مكتبة غوتنبرغ) وبعضهم وصمه بالجنون‪ ,‬أما هو فقد وصف نفسه‬
‫ساخرًا بأنه سائق شاحنة أضاع الطريق فوجد نفسه في األكاديميا (الحدائق‬
‫التي كان يدّر س فيها أفالطون)‪ ..‬لكن الذين عرفوه عن قرب شهدوا بأنه كان‬
‫رجًال غزير العلم‪ ،‬متقد الذكاء‪ ،‬شديد التفاؤل بمستقبل العلم والتكنولوجيا‪،‬‬
‫غريب األطوار‪ ،‬ودودًا‪ ،‬مفعما بالمشاعر اإلنسانية‪ ،‬ذا عزيمة جبارة وكرم‬
‫مجنون‪ ..‬وشديد التواضع (ومن ذلك أنه عزا اختراعه العظيم الى مجرد كونه‬
‫في مكان مناسب في ليلة مناسبة)‪ ..‬إنه‪ ،‬على وصف أحد زمالئه "رجل غير‬
‫عاقل" بالمعنى الذي استخدمه جورج برناردشو للمقارنة بين اإلنسان العاقل‬
‫"الذي يكيف نفسه مع العالم" واإلنسان غير العاقل "الذي يكيف العالم مع‬
‫نفسه" والذي يوصينا بإتباعه واالعتماد عليه‪ ،‬وعليه فقط‪ ،‬لتحقيق التقدم وبناء‬
‫!عالم أفضل‬
